The Fascinating Production Cels and The Art of Warner Brothers
Bugs Bunny and the gang have not only made an indelible imprint on the animation world and the culture of live-action cartoons but they have made quite the lasting imprint on the general public and of the Looney Tunes fans throughout the world. Warner Brothers art has become something special and historic but the legendary Hollywood film studio has most certainly gave birth to some of the most rambunctious and zany cartoon characters the world has ever seen.
Over 80 Years of Rich Animation
Warner Brothers artist began developing cartoons in the 1930’s and have continued ever since to produce their hilarious animated masterpieces. They also produced a style of animation that was simply richer, broader and full of vibrancy that has pushed their brushes into the folklore of American History. These vibrant animations were brought to life on production cels and what they are is a hand painted cel which was drawn on thin, clear cels of plastic to create one solitary scene in several to produce an entire animation short.
The production cel steadily grew a fanbase and has become a widely popular commodity and these little snapshots of animation history have become an even bigger collectors item with the fellow artist themselves. Ranging up to as far as $1,000 but the final value per cell is all determined on various elements, such as the condition, the pose that the characters convey, the particular cartoon that the cel was used and the most important factor is the rarity and authenticity of the piece.
Production Cels Spawn A New Culture
Warner Brothers artwork cels are sold in several different locations galleries, studios, theme parks, major auction studios and of course they can be found online as well. Any well-seasoned enthusiast should clearly analyze the artwork before ever making a purchase. A collector should always have a warranty in place and most importantly a seal of authenticity. Typically, auctions tend to sway away from any sort of proof of authenticity and the only individual who should make any sort of purchase at an auction and they should always be an expert who can identify all of the tell-tell signs that state it is the real deal.
Many locations, especially websites like Ebay are getting into production cel fever and have employed the prospect of Warner Brothers art for sale in limited editions. These special limited cells were hand painted and made specifically for the avid production cell collector. These cells in particular have been what they call “ink lined” or “ink lines”. This particular process was used to capture the outlines of the characters onto the cell prior to the artist then choosing the most appropriate colors to be instilled within the lines to bring the character to fruition.
Fans Can Hold Onto History
The collecting of production cels have become a culture all in itself and the passion and drive that seeps into the avid collector still continues to escalate, especially as time moves on and many of the cells become more vintage. The prospect to buy Warner Brothers art has certainly paved the road for fans of Looney Tunes and such and it is this type of culture and this type of brotherhood that will send everyone of these cartoon characters into the stratosphere of history altogether.
